Alligator Start
Start of a new Project
At start of Alligator the project view is empty. In the top window bar the version of Alligator (CL, ML, AI, NET) is displayed.
To start a new project you need to set the project filename (*.alligator) and import spectra and - maybe - models.
To set the filename right click on "Load Project", select "New project", enter the information. A file save dialog will ask the user for a directory on the file system where to save the project file to. Please select a location of your choice.
To add spectra or models click on "Sample sets" or "Models". To import a sample set select "Import sample set" and the appropriate file format for your spectra file.
The following file formats are supported:
- Alligator SPECTRA files
- GRAMS SPC files
- ISI NIR and CAL files
- UCal SVF files
In case of GRAMS SPC files selecting a SPC file will open a file open dialog, where all SPC files from that folder are presented for import. To import a sample set, only GRAMS SPC files with uniform wavelength information can be imported in one turn: i.e. across all selected files identical first and last wavelengths as well as number of wavelengths.
To import spectra from ASCII files or clipboard select "Import Sample Set from Clipboard/ASCII file".
For the import from ASCII files or Clipboard the undefined structure needs to be elucidated by the user. First select the type of data on the bottom, next whether headers are present (left column), than the columns for sample description, constituent values and spectral data.
If no column headers with sampel names are available in the data, 1..n is assumed. If no column header with constituent names and wavelength information are available 1..n are used.
OBS: While many things can be corrected later, the proper selection of constituent and spectra coulmns cannot be corrected.
To import models select the appropriate model type to import fromt he menu (model set, PLS models, MLR models, ...) followed by "Import model from file".
Next to Alligator models ISI EQA models may be imported as PLS models when an identical named PCA file is located naxt to the EQA file. Both EQA and PCA file are imported together.
It is the users responsibility to save the project with its content. To accomplish this either rightclick on "Load project" and select "Save project" or press Ctrl-S on the keyboard.
To work with a sample set select one sample set and open it to view its content: "Sample set", menu item "Open Selected Sample Set". From the nowly opened sample set view, the user might create a new model: "Create Model" on the left.
